Fantastic Beasts & How To Find Them

Join our Quantock Hills National Landscape Manager Iain and Forestry England’s ecologist Andy Harris to explore the wonderful Great Wood and search for the fantastic beasts that call it home.  

The walk will be a gentle 1.6 miles (2km) walk around Ramscombe and will use forest roads to explore using bat detectors, exploring for owls and deer, looking out for signs of animal activity, tracks and sound calls.  The woodland is teaming with wildlife and Iain and Andy will introduce you to the amazing abilities of the animals using the woods at night and some of the ways in which we can find them.  

Under 16's are free but must be accompanied by a paying adult and please book them a ticket so we know how many people to expect.  This walk would be suitable for age 6+ due to the distance and timings.

The walk will start promptly at 7.00pm at the Events Room, Ramscombe in Great Wood and finish at approximately 9.00pm.  Please avoid using the postcode as this covers a wide area, the events room can be found at:

A car park and toilets are adjacent to the events room.  The walk is approximately 1.6 miles /  2km in distance and will be using the forest roads/tracks.  Please wear suitable footwear for walking off road, clothing for the weather conditions on the day, and bring a small torch and any refreshments you may need.
